Eric Olson, in true serial entreprenuer style, has just announced he is to leave Google to join BuzzFeed which was launched late last year by Jonah Peretti of the Huffington Post and termed by some as the NEW Digg.
Just as I announced my gig at FeedBurner on this blog a couple years back and the Google acquisition I am now announcing my departure from Google and my move to BuzzFeed.

So who or what is BuzzFeed? According to their FAQ each weekday, they will publish ten stories that highlight the best stuff emerging from the Internet using a combination of technology and human editors to find the hottest buzz on the web.
This to me feels very much like Digg meets Mahalo because information is sourced using technology and then further filtered, promoted using people and ranked using clicks.
Reading closer between the lines, BuzzFeed works by tracking a number of sites registered within its network, such as the Huffington Post, Kotte.organd many more.
Its Editors then promote what they feel is the best of the web and readers then click on content to increase its ranking. This type of longtail aggregation of content on meta sites supported by advertising is very smart and very vogue right now, simply because there is just too much information on the web and human filters/aggregators are greatly need to improve the signal to noise ratio.
